kindness

the art of allowing to me means not forcing things to happen, but rather taking a trusting view on life.  trusting the universe to take care of our needs is perhaps one of the most simple, yet hard to do things in our lives.  having faith and trusting the universe to take care of your needs, followed by having patience and reverence for how it all works, has worked for many people time and time again.
love and kindness are two things we can all practice to work in harmony with the universe (God), and work to bring more good into our own lives.  the more love we give, the more is returned to us (the law of attraction).  not only loving those who love us, but strangers... people who really need it, yet we may say "what have they done to deserve this?"  giving out of kindness involves only giving from a charitable heart, not one expecting in return.  after doing this, one can trust in the universe and allow the love to flow in (receiving) and out (giving) with no attachments - trying to control or manipulate to get love or hold on to it.  we should be thankful for all the love we've been given and all that we're inclined to give.
giving feels good.  not only does giving make us feel good, but it actually improves our health.  yes, our biology is improved from our acts of kindness towards others.  there is scientific evidence that kindness actually improves brain chemistry in both those giving and those receiving.  what really fascinates me is how so many spiritual traditions say the same thing, no matter which spiritual tradition one follows, they can all agree on the universal principal of kindness.  do unto others as you would have them to do unto you, give all you can spare out of the charity of your heart, that god gave it to you to share with others, not to be stingy with.  besides, the more we give out of kindness and love for others, the more will flow back into our lives.  so moral of the story:  want to improve your health, relationships, family, friends, ability to enjoy life?  be kind.
gratitude, something very special and important to me... i love the feeling i get when i'm grateful an thankful for my friends, family, girlfriend, dogs, house, job, nurses at work... anything at all really.  and the more frequently i am grateful, the more things to be grateful for show up.  according to the movie The Secret, we attract to us the predominant thoughts and feelings we have.  so the more often i'm grateful, the more things to be grateful for will appear in my life :).  what a thought!

according to the law of attraction, to change what always has been, we need to change our thoughts off of what we always have been thinking.  if we think and feel the same as we always have, we'll keep attracting the same results.

recently i went to church with my mom and girlfriend, and one of the things that really stuck out to me was when the pastor said you don't always need to feel a certain way first before you act, but the act of acting will make us feel the way we are acting.  this goes hand in hand with the movie the secret, wayne dyer, and other teachings of spiritual nature - they say think a certain way, or of what you want to attract, and the feelings will follow.  a simple test will show how true this statement is....

try it, right now.  think of a really sad moment in your life (perhaps when a pet died) for 10 seconds or so.  do it now.

how do you feel?  ok now PICTURE something that really makes you happy, (a family pet for instance) in your mind.
do this now.

how do you feel?  thoughts control our feelings, this is the basic message of the secret.  when we know this, we can have more control of our thoughts and therefore our emotions.  in my class, we got a handout that talked about how actors have this ability down. they can milk their emotions by thinking of certain thoughts and the feelings come on very strongly, they call this emotional intelligence, or EQ (opposed to IQ).

good quotes

After searching for 'what does it mean to be civilized' for a paper I'm writing, I came across Dy Dara's blog, a blog that really had some awesome quotes and information.  I especially liked his page on gratitude, which really ties in well to the movie The Secret, and other spiritual teachers like Dr. Wayne Dyer.  He motivated me to make a blog as it seems like a good growth experience, and I always kind of wanted to have a place to put the quotes I came across and can remember them.

It's my intention not to use ego when writing this blog but to try and just share ideas and information with myself and anyone who is interested.
